ChatGPT brand monitoring is the practice of tracking whether, and how, ChatGPT mentions your brand when people ask it category, comparison, or direct-brand questions. It looks at four things per prompt: whether your brand is mentioned at all, the position it gets relative to competitors, the framing ChatGPT uses (recommended, listed as an option, or caveated), and whether the facts it states about you are accurate.
Because ChatGPT answers are generated fresh each time rather than pulled from a fixed ranking, the same prompt can return different brands, or a different verdict on your brand, from one week to the next. Monitoring means running a consistent set of prompts on a schedule and comparing results over time, not checking once and assuming the answer holds.
Most teams start manually: asking ChatGPT a handful of prompts by hand and noting what comes back. That works for a one-off check, but it does not scale to tracking recommendation share, sentiment drift, or hallucinations across dozens of prompts and competitors on an ongoing basis, which is where a dedicated monitoring workflow takes over.
